My Custom Process

Hello there! I thought I would take some time to talk about my process for creating custom works of art. You would be surprised at how many people want me to turn them into cute and whimsical characters! I love it! The first step is a photo of the people you would like me to transform. Here is an example of a wedding photo that I was given for a custom piece.

This beautiful family is right up my alley. They like Day of the Dead, Zombies, and Undead things. I asked my client things like their color eyes, their favorite colors, and their quirky likes and dislikes. These two gentlemen are known for playing their guitars at their church, so I had to incorporate a guitar into the piece. Tatoos were also a must. I came up with a sketch for my client to approve.

Once the sketch was approved, I went to work. My clients do not see the final piece until I have added all the color to it. I can make it into a piece that you can frame yourself or I can make it a ready to hang canvas. I have also created decorative shadow boxes as seen on another blog post. After I added all the color and accents I showed my client.

She loved it thankfully! I wish I didn't have to put a watermark on it so you could see it unobstructed. I am a mixed media artist, so I use all different kinds of media to create my pieces. The images have a bit of texture to them, that I finish off with a spray varnish to give them a bit of protection.

I really enjoyed doing this piece. This is going to be a late wedding gift. I wish I could see the family when they got it. As for me....well, I am off to do my next piece! Toodles!

Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Halloween! This is my favorite holiday if you couldn't already tell. Both of my girls are old enough that they are going out with their friends to trick or treat which really bums me out. Usually my Mom takes them out and I sit on the porch and hand out candy. This year my Mom will be at home with me. It will be nice to be with her, but I will miss my girls. I will of course be doing my makeup really cool like I do every year. There may or may not be a picture. We shall see.

Here are the monsters that I created for my girls for their Halloween presents. The first is for my oldest. She loves Fall Out Boy just like her Mama. :)

The next is a cute little witch who is ready to put up her Halloween decorations for my youngest.

I am currently working on three different pieces. I will try to add progress pictures if I get the chance. Between those, art classes, and art journaling, I am a busy girl. Enjoy the haunted holiday weekend and don't eat too many sweets!

Here is one of the pieces I am working on. I cannot wait to see how this turns out.

I Have Been Busy, I Promise!

So here we are again. It is almost Halloween, my favorite time of year! I have been busy with learning more and more about art. I could shoot myself for not taking art classes when I was a kid. There are things like color theory, paint types, medium types, pencils, brushes, etc., that I am busy learning about.  I always thought you just used any type of paint you wanted to, or any kind of pen or pencil, to create the art that I have seen. It never occurred to me that there was more to it. Well, there is - a lot more! I have been signed up for a year long course called Life Book 2015. I am so excited! It is a chance to learn from a lot of different artists. It is a mixed media feast! I have seen some of the work that has come from the past students. I cannot wait to start! If you want to learn more about the class, click here.   I have taken classes from Tam, the beautiful lady that put the course together before. She is an amazing teacher.

So now we get to the most recent art I have done!  These two pieces were done as gifts for some very special people in my life. I enclosed them in shadow boxes. I really like the outcome.

The next piece I did and donated to International Geek Girl Pen Pals. They will be having a really cool Halloween party. The winner of the Pumpkin Carving Contest will win this! I am going to be sad to see this go!

The last piece is something I just started today. I love her bunny! I can't decide what colors I want to do for her hair or dress. I am not sure if I am going to put her in a shadow box or special frame. So many decisions!

Well, the Coyotes are playing a game right now so I need to quit blogging. I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
